Portugal's Online Gaming Market Reaches €287.0 Million in Gross Revenue in Q2 2025

(Lisbon).- The Serviço de Regulação e Inspeção de Jogos (SRIJ) has released its online gaming activity report for the second quarter of 2025, revealing a total gross gaming revenue (GGR) of €287.0 million16161616. This figure represents a robust growth of 9.6% compared to the same period in 2024.

The report details that online games of chance continue to dominate the market, generating 62.0% of the total GGR, equivalent to €177.8 million. This segment saw a year-over-year increase of 12.2%19. Sports betting accounted for the remaining 38%, with revenues of €109.2 million, a 5.7% rise from the previous year.

Key Report Highlights:
- Betting Volume: Bets on games of chance reached €5,039.4 million, up 15.4% from the same period last year. The volume of sports bets was €457.3 million.
- Player Preferences: Football remains the preferred sport for betting, capturing 67.7% of all sports wagers. In the games of chance category, slot machines were the most popular, accounting for 79.1% of betting volume.
- Player Registrations: By the end of Q2, the total number of registered players stood at 4.87 million25. During the quarter, 211,000 new players registered 26, and 1.1 million players were active.
- Responsible Gaming and Enforcement: The number of self-excluded players increased by 27.0% year-over-year. Additionally, the SRIJ issued 97 notices for the closure of illegal operators and notified 110 websites for blocking.
The Special Tax on Online Gambling (IEJO) collected during the quarter amounted to €81.2 million, a 5.8% increase over the same period in 2024.
